The past few years has seen an explosion in the quality of street art – and a significant and growing proportion of those works are by women. Interestingly however, women are only a tiny minority of the artists represented in most street art books. This stunning volume seeks to redress the balance, featuring the works of over 50 artists, with detailed biographies of each by street art specialist Xavier Tapies, in a hipster, high-quality paperback format.
The artists come from all over the world – the likes of Faith47 (Cape Town), Lady Aiko (NYC), BTOY (Barcelona), Neozoon (Berlin), Miss Van (Toulouse), Caratoes (Hong Kong), Nadege Dauvergne (Paris) and Lily Mixe (London). What is striking is how many come from Australia – there is a real sense of the pioneering quality of so much of Melbourne women’s street art, represented here, amongst others, by Kaff-Eine, Lucy Lucy and the brilliant Vexta.
Essential for anyone into street art and brilliant inspiration for all street artists, male and female, out there.
